Volume 3: "I can travel without money."

The third installment of the crazy book that chooses its readers. This time, it's Eastern Europe and Latin America: an account of a 16 country, eight-month trip. Each day recorded in photographs, drawings, and written records. The beautiful streets of socialist Ukraine and public fights with shopkeepers. In Peru, I traveled the unseen world on a psychedelic trip guided by a shaman. An insane attempt on the tallest mountain in South America, Aconcagua (6962m). Working from the road on my laptop. I hope you feel the joy and beauty of travel.

Volume 4: "I read it and I loved it!"

The long-awaited fourth installment. Goodbye to Volume 1 and 2's insane days of printing, cutting, and gluing together each individual book. But how did this author manage to get his book printed in Shanghai by himself?! This volume recounts the industrial revolution of "Tamio Nikki"!

Couchsurfing in India with my American girlfriend. Trekking from Lukla, Nepal (altitude 2900m) to the Everest base camp (altitude 5364m). Fighting altitude sickness and each other, we finally saw the beauty of Mt Everest. And witnessed the Kumbh Mela festival, a once every 6 year gathering of holy men in India.

On the heels of the runaway bestsellers This is New York and This is Paris, Universe is pleased to reissue another title from M. Sasek's beloved and nostalgic children's travel series.

Like the other Sasek classics, This is Venice is a facsimile edition of his original book from the 1960s and is still timely and current in every way. The stylish, charming illustrations, coupled with Sasek's witty, playful narrative, makes for a perfect souvenir that will delight both children and their parents, many of whom will remember this book from their childhood.

This is Venice, first published in 1961, presents indelible impressions of romantic, watery Venice, where under a brilliant blue sky Sasek the gondolier navigates the winding canals to visit such famous and glorious landmarks as the Palazzo Grassi, Piazza San Marco, Doges Palace, and the Accademia di Belle Arti.

Illustrator Miroslav Sasek captures both the breathtaking landscape and the cosmopolitan flavor of the City by the Bay in This is San Francisco. First published in 1962, Sasek's jaunty, colorful illustrations will still dazzle kids and adults alike.

These charming illustrations, coupled with Sasek's witty, playful narrative, make for a perfect souvenir that will delight both children and their parents, many of whom will remember the series from their own childhoods. This is Rome, first published in 1960, traces the history of Roman civilization to bring to life the Rome of the 60's. Sasek navigates Rome's busy, winding streets to visit such glorious historical landmarks as the statues of Michelangelo, Vatican City, the Pantheon, and the Fontana di Trevi-and to show us the eccentricities of modern Roman life, from its colorful trains, trams, and taxis to its chic espresso bars and pasta houses.

Hardcover
Dimension: 12.6 x 9.1 x 0.5 inches

Sasek picked the wrong moment to visit Washington, D.C. and arrived just in time to witness the mayhem that followed Martin Luther King's assassination, the Poor People's Campaign and the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy.

Some critics felt that his experiences were reflected in the book. This is Washington, D.C. is more sombre in tone than the earlier books in the series, but this is consistent with the later books which all seem to focus more on architectural detail and less on the cute, ephemeral details that typify the earlier titles. Saying that, it is still an excellent book with lots of great pictures and an informative narrative as always.

The Wolf's Whistle [ HC book ] - Bjorn Rune Lie & Co Popping Through Pictures [board book] - Amanda Visell Tamioo Nikki vol. 1+2: Asia & India - Tamioo
Dimensions: 15.5 x 22 cm | Extent: 32 pages | Colours: 4 | Format: Hardback | Series: Children’s Book

John Martz from Drawn! says

“Another neat little hardcover beauty, The Wolf’s Whistle is a Richard Scarry meets Wes Anderson fusion of art comics and children’s books. It’s a superhero origin story made with the deft touch of a printmaker, and which might be the title in NoBrow’s catalogue that best showcases the care and attention given to the printing process. The artwork itself is created with the colour separations in mind from the beginning. It gives the artwork a particularly thought-out and cohesive look, and the pages have a tactile quality that you don’t find online, and rarely find in other books.”

Albert is a comic-creating, scrawny little wolf who spends his lunch breaks sharing tales of the ‘Lone Wolf’, his heroic graphic alter ego, to his group of misfit friends; dreaming of one day selling the story to the esteemed Wonder Comics. In reality, Albert and his friends did regularly make battle with an evil force, the Honeyroast brothers. The school’s alpha male sports jocks, the three bratty pigs, the sons of the local property magnate, will stop at nothing to torment their weaker classmates.

The story resumes many years later when Albert is a mail room assistant at Wonder comics, living in a dingy one bed studio in Brooklyn where the Honeyroast brothers are now reigning as slumlords…

Bjorn Rune Lie’s first solo book for Nobrow is a work of pure beauty and also represents the first foray into children’s books by Nobrow and one of our most cherished collaborators. All pre-orders will come with a free canvas bag while stocks last.

Here’s what Bristol art magazine Venue had to say about the wolf’s Whistle:

“…Enter the big bad wolf. But was he really so bad? This is the question at the heart of Bjorn Rune Lie’s book ‘The Wolf’s Whistle’, the first instalment in Nobrow’s ‘Behind the Tails’ series. The series will explore the back-stories of fairy tales’ most notorious villains – Bjorn’s follows Albert, a scrawny little wolf who spends his lunch break drawing and dreaming of selling his story to Wonder Comics. He is terrorised by the three bratty Honey-roast brothers (they’re of the porcine persuasion, naturally), the bully-boy sons of a local property magnate. Eventually Albert is forced to make a stand against his oppressors and fulfill his destiny as the crime-fighting Lone Wolf. Bjorn’s nostalgic, three-coloured drawings hark back to mid- century Americana with a prohibition twist and a cast of outlandish characters of extreme proportions. As you can see from these here pictures…”
This collection of work by popular artist Amanda Visell is presented in a fun and tactile board book format that amplifies the playful nature of the artist's expertly-rendered paintings. Although her work is highly sought after by established art collectors, this book is not the usual artist monograph, but a joyful page-turning experience for adults and kids alike, an unexpected visual adventure and still a concise overview of the artist's work. Full of color, full of fun, and sure to please.

Volume 1 & 2: "I never intended to publish a book."

"During my first backpacking trip, I carried a small journal and recorded what I saw. I showed it to a friend, who suggested I make a book. So I did, with an exacto knife, glue, and a printer. This was the genesis of Tamio Nikki. The handmade copies I made sold surprisingly well at a local shop, so I decided to have more copies printed in Shanghai."

Volume 1 - India

The first in the series chronicles my first backpacking experience in chaotic India.

Volume 2 - Asia

Sneaking into Tibet, pretending to be Chinese, bribing hostels not to rat me out, and dodging the police along the way, I made it to Mount Kailash and ancient kingdom of Guge.

Becky and Frank been making the comic Tiny Kitten Teeth for the past three years. One of the things that makes it special is it is entirely hand-painted in gouache and watercolor. It's inspired by their love of vintage animation, folk art, story-books, illustration and light-hearted satire. They want to share all the things they love with their readers.
The book features a canvas feel hardcover with a silkscreened spine. Clocking in at over 110 pages, it will cover Chapter Zero through Chapter Two.
This is the first three years of the comic compiled into a deluxe hardcover book. The pages are much closer to their original size than ever before. Re-scanned, re-lettered and some extra material added to bridge some gaps in the story.

Capture Creatures is a showcase of 151 creatures hand-painted by Becky, with their stories adapted by her partner Frank Gibson.

More about the artist: Primarily a comic artist, Becky’s work has been displayed in numerous galleries from Los Angeles to New York to New Zealanad and Japan. She is mostly known for her online hand-painted comic Tiny Kitten Teeth and its cute companion piece Tigerbuttah.
